Study of carbon-supported bimetallic PtCu nanoparticles by ASAXS

Bimetallic platinum-copper nanoparticles on carbon support are studied as a perspective electrochemical catalyst by anomalous small-angle X-ray scattering near the Pt absorption L3-edge. The simultaneous fitting of several diffraction patterns measured at different photon energies lead to a satisfactory agreement between experimental and model curves in the assumption of core-shell structure of...

Do quantum size effects control CO adsorption on gold nanoparticles?

Size effects in adsorption and reactivity of supported metal particles have been observed for at least two decades. In recent years, gold nanoparticles have received attention for their extraordinary catalytic activity for reactions such as low temperature CO oxidation. A number of different theories have been advanced to explain this reactivity in terms of special reaction sites created by the...

CO Adsorption-Driven Surface Segregation of Pd on Au/Pd Bimetallic Surfaces: Role of Defects and Effect on CO Oxidation

We use density functional theory (DFT) to study CO-adsorption-induced Pd surface segregation in Au/Pd bimetallic surfaces, dynamics of Pd−Au swapping, effect of defects on the swapping rate, CO-induced Pd clustering, and the reaction mechanism of CO oxidation. The strong COphilic nature of Pd atoms supplies a driving force for the preferential surface segregation of Pd atoms and Pd cluster form...

Segregation in bimetallic nanoparticles.

Bimetallic nanoparticles are of interest due to their physical and chemical properties, which differ from their monometallic counterparts, and are dependent on size, composition and structure. Their unique chemical and physical properties make them useful in many optical, electronic and catalytic applications. In this perspective article we discuss segregation in bimetallic nanoparticles and hi...
